Commonly Asked Questions
If you’re searching for cna classes near me, here’s what you’ll be trained to do: A Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, LPN, Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Medical Doctor or other supervisory staff. A CNA provides assistance to patients with daily living tasks and is responsible for basic care services such as bed making, grooming and vital signs. A CNA may also assist doctors and nurses with medical procedures.
Nobel Institute offers a two-part Certified Nurse Assistant training program.
Part I:
The first part of our CNA training takes place in the classroom. Students will learn all aspects of patient care through lectures, audio/video and practical demonstrations.
Part II:
Upon completion of the classroom training, students will begin clinical training (externship). During clinical training, students will work directly with patients in a health care facility in the NYC area. Students are supervised by a Registered Nurse who is both a staff member of our school and licensed by the New York State Education Department as a Primary Nurse Assistant Instructor. Each Registered Nurse Instructor will never have more than 10 students, assuring they can provide personalized instruction. During your externship, you will work side by side with other CNAs, nurses and medical professionals.
When you complete your clinical training, you will take the NYS certification exam. The exam is administered by an independent testing organization authorized by the State of New York and is given in two parts. The first part is a multiple-choice examination. The second part is a practical exam where you show the evaluator your skills. There is a separate charge for this exam paid to the administrator of the exam.
The official title is Certified Nurse Assistant. “Aide” is commonly used in place of assistant. The term Certified Nurse Assistant is commonly abbreviated as CNA. Other titles you may encounter are: Personal Care Aide, Personal Care Technician, Nurse Technician, Nurse Tech, Resident Assistant, Caregiver, Orderly, PCA, Resident Care Giver, PCG, Assistant Nurse or Hospital Aide.
Under the law, you must pass a State-prescribed CNA course and also pass a Certification Exam. You cannot work as a CNA in a nursing home in any state unless you are approved by that state. If you are a CNA in New York and want to work as a CNA in another state, you will need to request reciprocity from that state. This means that you are asking the new state to recognize your CNA approval granted to you by the State of New York.
